KABUL — A NATO soldier serving in Afghanistan died after an insurgent attack in the violent south, the alliance said Friday as unrest surges ahead of August elections.
The soldier died after being wounded in the attack on Thursday, the International Security Assistance Force said. It had earlier announced the death of another soldier in what appeared to be the same incident.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died of wounds suffered in a direct fire incident with insurgents that occurred in southern Afghanistan yesterday," the force said in a statement.
It did not give the nationality of the soldier or details of the attack.
